Underwood Portable Typewriter - $325.00

10" X 8 1/2" X 4"

Here is an Underwood Typewriter that is fully functional and has ties to a business in Topsham, Maine. This is a portable unit that includes the original case. The company was headquartered in New York City and had a manufacturing facility in Hartford, Conn., at the height of production. It was founded by the entrepreneur, John T. Underwood, when he recognized the importance of the machine. The last patent date on the unit is 1922, so it dates back to the 1920s. Portables were rare, and one such as this was used by Ernest Hemingway throughout his career and travels. Also, a unit such as this is in a Museum in Berlin, Germany. This is a wonderful example of the Underwood Typewriter and is complete and in great condition for any collector.
