This fine stenciled wash stand in mustard paint with gold highlights has Early American written all over it! The stenciling on the back splashboard is a deep brown acorn design surrounded by rich sage green leaves. The lines of this piece suggest a Chippendale influence and the front is rounded to reflect that design. There is a nice cut out to accept a good size wash bowl and pitcher and a full back leading down to a single drawer. The hand-dovetailed drawer with a one board chamfered bottom is indicative of the age of this piece, circa 1870. The drawer has a single brass knob with a subtle floral design that has nice patina. There are 4 turned legs at the bottom raising this piece up off the floor, no doubt to allow for easy cleaning underneath.
