Rookwood Pottery was founded in Cincinnati on Thanksgiving Day, 1880, by Maria Longworth Nichols Storer. On that day, Maria made history since this was the first large manufacturing firm owned and operated by a woman in the United States. The company still produces high quality art pottery & tiles today in its facility in Cincinnati. The dish that we are showing is a small piece of Rookwood Art Pottery that could be used as a soap dish or in any decorative setting. Also made are decorative tiles specifically for kitchens which are very popular. Our piece is marked with the signature RP mark and XXXi, meaning it was the 33rd piece produced. This little item has a rich history in the Northeast area.
